  • UN and The Art of Peace (UNP)


Required Courses:


- UN and International Security and Peace
This course explores the role of the United Nations in global security governance, focusing on peacekeeping, conflict prevention, and collective security mechanisms. It examines case studies of UN interventions and the challenges of maintaining international peace.

 

- UN and Human Rights
A study of the UN’s human rights frameworks, including key treaties, mechanisms, and institutions such as the Human Rights Council and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The course evaluates the effectiveness of UN initiatives in promoting and protecting human rights globally.

 

- Global Development Governance
This course examines the UN’s role in global development, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), international economic cooperation, and governance structures shaping development policies. It critically assesses the effectiveness of multilateral institutions in addressing global inequalities.



Selective Courses:


- Global Civil Society and Global Governance
This course analyzes the interaction between global civil societyNGOs, advocacy networks, and transnational movementsand international governance institutions. It explores how non-state actors influence policy-making, humanitarian efforts, and global norms.

 

- UN and International Organizations
A detailed study of the UN and other international organizations, focusing on their structures, functions, and roles in global governance. The course evaluates the effectiveness of international organizations in addressing contemporary global challenges.

 

- Contemporary International Relations
An exploration of major theories and issues in international relations, including power politics, diplomacy, regional conflicts, and globalization. It examines the role of the UN and other actors in shaping the modern international order.


- Peace Ideas
This course explores philosophical and historical perspectives on peace, from negative peace (absence of war) to positive peace (justice and coexistence). It examines key peace theories, cultural interpretations, and their impact on global peace efforts.

 

- Theories and Issues of Justice
This course examines major theories of justice, including distributive and global justice, in relation to human rights and governance. It analyzes real-world issues like war crimes, reparations, and the role of international institutions in promoting justice.

 

- Conflict Management and Negotiation
A practical course focusing on conflict resolution strategies, negotiation techniques, and mediation practices. Case studies from international diplomacy and UN peace efforts are used to illustrate conflict management approaches.

 

- Environmental & Sustainable Development
This course studies the intersection of environmental issues and global governance, with a focus on the UN’s role in sustainability, climate change mitigation, and ecological justice. It evaluates policies such as the Paris Agreement and SDGs.
